Why are you fasting and I thought when your fasting you can't eat before sun up or down, Or is that the wrong culture/tradition/religion/national trait?

No, I'm not sure what culture that is. But Orthodox fast for forty days before Christmas, and a bit more for Pascha (Easter). And pretty much the reason is to learn self-control. Oh, and also to learn to love people more. Something like that. But part of that is eating what is put in front of you, so that you don't offend them.

But if your fasting, then you should be fasting. Taking a break from fasting just proves that the fasting wasn't really that important to you.
